A Finance Governor is required for Parkwood Hall Academy in Kent.  Parkwood Hall are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Governor to guide and support financial control and growth.

Parkwood Hall Co-operative Academy is a special educational needs school set in seventy-eight acres of woodlands in Swanley, Kent and occupying a large Victorian mansion. Parkwood Hall caters for children and young people aged 8-19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, and a variety of additional needs including the Autistic Spectrum and Speech Language & Communication Needs. The pupils are at the heart of everything they do, and the school seeks to provide an outstanding and nurturing learning environment which supports pupils to become independent and creative and achieve their best. They have a modified National Curriculum to meet pupil needs, focusing instead on these Core Values and their 3 ‘Rs’ – Relevant, Realistic and Rewarding.

There are 3 main board meetings held, one every school term, usually on site at the Academy in Swanley. The Governor will be a member of the Finance & General Purpose Committee (FGP) and the Audit and Risk Committee, the former meeting 6 times a year (in advance of the main board meeting), with the possibility of becoming Chair of the FGP in the future. 

This a voluntary role.

Role of the Governor

The school seeks a Governor with extensive experience and a successful track record in finance to join the Board of Governors as a member of the FGP in particular.

The new Governor will contribute their professional, specialist and general management skills to the Governing Body (and through its Committees) in a non-executive role.  

A Governor is required to be as flexible as possible in the conduct of their responsibilities and duties, ensuring that the balance of oversight of the school and its business is seen as a positive contribution that does not interfere with day-to-day management.

The board seeks finance leaders who are:

  • Experienced Finance Executives or Business Managers.
  • A qualified accountant.
  • Ideally MAT/Academy experience either as an Executive or Trustee/Governor or experience of Audit for the education sector.
  • General business development / growth.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction of the Academy.
  • Maintain sound financial management of the school’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with its budgets, objectives, and that its investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational and business performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.

 

A DBS check and declaration of interests will be required for the successful candidate prior to appointment.

Formal interviews including a tour of the school are scheduled for week commencing 9th May 2022.
