Trustees are required for Art in Perpetuity Trust (APT), founded in 1995 by a group of artists in southeast London. Their mission is to support creative thought and artistic vision, both in the studio and in the wider world. APT provides 42 secure studios for visual artists, a contemporary art gallery, a working sculpture yard and an external public performance space.  

APT is artist led, each artist who is offered a studio, automatically becomes a member of the charity, taking an active role in its direction, through subcommittees and other advisory roles.

Board meetings are held bi-monthly/ 6 times a year in central London and/or virtually as required. The Board of Trustees offers guidance and expertise to the Administrative Director and Artist Members.  The Trustee roles are voluntary. 

APT - Background

Art in Perpetuity Trust was founded in 1995 by a group of artists in an old warehouse in southeast London. As a registered charity its aims are to:

  • promote the value of creativity in the visual arts
  • provide secure studio space in perpetuity on Creekside, Deptford
  • provide an accessible gallery space (free to visitors with low hire rates for exhibitors)
  • run Open Studio events to give visitors the opportunity to experience a working artistic community
  • forge links with local, national, and international individuals and groups to develop a diverse range of educational programmes

 

APT are looking for up to 5 candidates to strengthen the board, with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Artist or Curator with an excellent industry profile
  • Legal expert with understanding of charity, property and employment law
  • Public sector experience with knowledge of local communities in South London or a connection to our local area
  • Fundraiser with experience in income generation, Trust & Foundations, and public funding.
  • Financial professional with knowledge of charity financing

 

The Trustee Role

The role of the Trustees is to assist the Chair in meeting the Board’s overall responsibilities, in accordance with their statutory and charitable duties.  Advice and guidance on these duties will be provided as part of induction.

Trustees must be able to attend the meetings of the Board, and such other meetings as may be necessary.  Board meetings are normally held bi-monthly/ 6 times a year in central London and/or virtually as required.

The Board of Trustees offers guidance and expertise to Administrative Director and Artist Members.
